We begin this section with an overview of the fundamental equations of coupled-cluster(CC) theory. This will show some of the basic concepts including how what appears to be an infinite series of terms naturally truncates itself in a convenient manner. We will also examine the form of the CC energy equation, its non-variational solution, and the repercussions of its variational solution.
