FORMAL
GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS
The Revista Alicantina de Estudios Ingleses (RAEI) publishes the
following types of contributions: (1) full-length articles on all
topics within the field of English studies (linguistics, literary criticism,
literature, teaching methodology, and translation and interpreting), (2) reviews of
recently published books.
Manuscripts. Manuscripts should be sent to the Editor at University
of Alicante, Department of English Studies, Ap. 99, E-03080 Alicante, Spain,
and should be prepared in accordance with the guidelines provided below.
Manuscripts not conforming with these guidelines will be returned to the
authors for revision. Besides, the RAEI does not support duplicate submissions:
only manuscripts offered exclusively to this Journal will be considered for
publication. The only language of publication is English. Authors are expected
to provide two copies of their manuscript, typed double-spaced, with wide
margins, on plain, standard A4. No disk version is required at this stage. Only when
the manuscript is finally accepted, an e-mailed copy of the final version
will be asked (WordPerfect or Word format). The following information should
appear on the first page: full title, author's full name, affiliation, and
address (including e-mail). An abstract of no more than 200 words should
also be provided.
Originals will only be returned when asking for modifications.
Authors should keep a copy of their manuscripts, since we cannot return them
once submitted
to RAEI.
Citations. Double quotation marks should be used for citations.
Single quotes may be used to draw attention to a particular item in the text.
Words from other languages, and words intended to be especially emphasized,
should be italicized. References in the text to publications should include
the author's surname, the year of publication, and, if necessary, page numbers,
as in the following example:
As Wilson (1997a: 16) suggests ...
This has been pointed out by several authors (Wilson, 1996: 123-126; Thompson,
1998)
Bibliographical references. The bibliography should be included
at the end of the manuscript, on a separate page. Author's full first names
should be used unless the authors themselves customarily use only initials.
References to two or more works by the same author in a single year should
be accompanied by a lower-case a, b, etc. after the year of publication,
both in the reference list and in citations in the text (see examples above).
References to books should include the place of publication and the publisher's
name, and references to articles in journals should include volume, issue
number (if necessary) in brackets, and page numbers, as in the following
examples:
Carston, Robyn (1998): "Informativeness, relevance and scalar implicature".
In R. Carston and S. Uchida, eds., Relevance Theory. Applications and
Implications. Amsterdam: Benjamins, 179-236.
Carston, Robyn and Seiji Uchida (eds.)(1998): Relevance Theory. Applications
and Implications. Amsterdam: Benjamins.
Poyatos, Fernando (1982): "Language and nonverbal behavior in the structure
of social conversation". Language Sciences 4(2): 155-185.
Endnotes. Endnotes should be typed as normal text (i.e., not
automatically generated by the text processor) at the end of the article before
the references, and should be as few and as short as possible. Their corresponding
numbers in the main text should be typed as superscripts.
Symbols. Current (CG Times or Times New Roman) typefaces should
be used, and special symbols should be avoided as much as possible.
Style. Authors are kindly requested to check carefully their
manuscripts before submitting them. Editors reserve the right to correct,
or to have corrected, non-native use of English.
Authors' benefits. Upon publication in RAEI, authors of articles
will receive 25 reprints of their contribution, free of charge, and a copy
of the volume in which their article is published. The authors of reviews
will also be sent one copy of the volume. |
