WHAT IS IT?

The creation of a multidisciplinary Women Studies Centre, attached to the University of Alicante, follows the lines of already created centres at other universities as a institutional answer to the need of including within the university atmosphere an space for reflection and performance on gender, from an open, critical  approach, according to the social needs of gender promotion and equality, with the solid conviction that the development of women rights stands before the development of the society rights as a whole.

The WSC is co-founder of the "Valencian Universities Coordinating Centre for Gender Studies"

It is member of AOIFE (Association of Institutions for Feminist Education and Research in Europe), of ATHENA (official network of the European Commission Socrates Program), of WISE (Women's International Studies in Europe) and of ARM (Association for Research on Mothering)

The WSC is intended for the achievement of the following objectives:

  • Integration in the research teaching.
  • Multidisciplinary education of the WSC's members.
  • Coordination of proposals of subjects on gender.
  • Participation in and collaboration with national and foreign Centres and Institutes.
  • Promotion of new research lines and collaboration with and training of research groups in Gender Studies.
  • Encouragement of actions tending to non-discrimination.
  • Establishment of scientific co-operation relations with national and international University Institutes, as well as with related centres and entities.
  • Establishment of agreements and maintenance of relationships with different academic and non-academic institutions, public and private entities.
  • Circulations of the activities and studies produced within the Centre:publications, conferences, lecture, etc.
  • Creation of a specialised bibliographical and documentary collection.
