Entrance examinations for mature students

REGULATIONS

REGULATIONS ON THE UNIVERSITY OF ALICANTE'S ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS FOR MATURE STUDENTS (approved by the Governing Board on 31 October 2000)

INTRODUCTION
University entrance for mature students without any studies certification was controlled by the Organic Law on the Spanish Educational System Organization of 3rd October 1990 (BOE of 4th October 1990) before the Royal Decree 704/1999 of 30th April (BOE of 1st May 1999) was in force. Those students who had passed University Entrance Examinations for a certain study program can enter it directly, without pre-registration.
Royal Decree  704/1999 and Royal Decree 69/2000 of 21st January (BOE of 22nd January 2000), which derogates the previous one, establish admission criteria to public universities for students who have passed Entrance Examinations, allowing them to take such examinations at the university of their choice. Under specific criteria, it is possible to reserve a number of places equal to bnetween 1% and 3% of total places for each study program. The Order 29th May 2000, from the Regional Department of Education and Culture, by which admission proceedings to higher education in the Valencian Community are controlled, establishes that the number of places reserved for mature students after having passed entrance examinations will be 3% for academic year 1999/2000. Therefore, a quota system of 3% should be reserved yearly for such a group.

Consequently, if student demand for places is more than the places offered, the University shall offer them according to suitable criteria for each entrance examinations option and the qualifications obtained.
The University of Alicante, with the aim of adapting mature students' entrance to this new situation, has controlled the entrance examinations according to the following criteria:
