The
University
of Alicante, within the framework of its International Relations
policy with Latin America and especially with great interest in the Cuban
people, has since 1996 made a great effort to develop academic
training and volunteer activities in Cuba together with the Cuban
higher Institutions. These activities are all financed through the University's
International Co-operation Office. The Havana Project is an initiative
carried out by the following Institutions: the International Centre for
Patrimony Preservation, the University of Alicante and the
Havana City Historian's Office (Oficina
del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana) in order to contribute
both in cultural, social and economic development and in reinforcing the
links of friendship between Cuba and Spain. This agreement allows the University
of Alicante to have available an office located within the House of
Mexico. This office facilitates relations between Cuban
Institutions and the University of Alicante.
At
present, some agreements of collaboration are being held with ten universities
and several higher education centres in Cuba.
The
University of Alicante has received the International Co-operation Prize,
awarded by the International Centre for Patrimony Preservation.
