1. Definitions
|
1.1. By "free elective subjects"
is meant the academic subjects or activities offered at the University
either within, or outside the syllabuses that the students can choose according
to his/her flexible curriculum configuration.
1.2. By "free elective credits"
is meant the assessment unit by which academic subjects or activities are
configured. |
2. Subjects that can be taken as
free elective credits

2.1. Any subject from the study
programme in force at the University of Alicante, except for mainstream
or compulsory subjects taught in courses where placed are limited.
Supplementary courses can also be
taken as free elective subjects. If so, they will be given full academic
credit to enter the second cycle.
2.2. Academic subjects or activities
not included in the University of Alicante study programmes and passed
as such by the Governing Board
2.3. Academic subjects or activities
offered at universities in agreement with the University of Alicante. |
3. Requirements and limits to take
free elective subjects.

3.1. Free election is subject
to the same incompatibilities and requirements stated for mainstream, compulsory
or optional subjects and for the second cycle access.
3.2. The Governing Board, on
a proposal from departments, could establish some requirements not stated
within those for the syllabus. Thus, certain subjects can be taken as free
electives by students from other syllabuses.
3.3. The Governing Board may
establish, on grounds of academic orientation, free election not prior
to the syllabus second year.
3.4. Some limited free elective
places may be established for other syllabuses' students without affecting
students taking the syllabus in which these credits are offered.
3.5. Academic subjects or activities
whose content is equal or similar to the syllabus chosen cannot be taken
as free elective.
3.6. The maximum number of
free elective credits to be taken, adapted or validated is the one established
by the syllabus taken. This limit can only be surpassed by the credits
of the last subject needed to reach the total. |
4. Academic system for free election.

4.1. Any syllabus' subjects
taken as free electives, will be subject to the academic system in force
for them.
4.2. Whether any subject -included
in the free elective subjects' prospectus- is
no longer offered at the immediate upper course, the student registered
to such a subject without having passed it (and whereas calls have not
been exhausted) has the right to:

a) if the subject is taught,
to be registered and attend the two next courses.
b) if the subject is no longer
taught due to elimination from the syllabuses, to be registered to the
two next courses within the same academic system applied to those subjects. |
4.3. The number of free elective
credits established in the respective syllabuses should be obtained totally
as such: this number cannot be reached by summing credits obtained from
already passed optional subjects. |
5. Management and proceedings for
free election.

5.1. With
the aim of providing the students eligibility on free elective subjects,
the University -through its several bodies- offers the required information
and guidance.
To such effect, a prospectus including
the free elective academic subjects and activities will be elaborated at
the beginning of every academic year.
5.2. The student will apply
for his/her registration to the free elective subjects on the registration
form that should be submitted to the centre secretary office where the
study programme is attached.
5.3. Whether the applications
for registration are acceptable, either by being integrated within these
subjects groups or by creating exclusive free-elective-subject groups,
registration will be definitely accomplished.
5.4. Cases in which applications
cannot be admitted for certain subjects due to lack of teaching capacity,
vacancies will be assigned -according to registration order- on the following
grounds:

1. Students that have passed
all the subjects within the schedule by June.
2. The rest of the students
according to the order established on the registration regulations. |

6. Free elective subject list and
certificates.
|
6.1. Once the registration
process is finished and, prior to the assignments of the corresponding
groups, the centres where free elective subjects are taught, will detail
a list and certificates of such subjects and it will be submitted to the
corresponding departments.
6.2. Likewise, the Computing
Service will submit, to each centre secretary office, information on the
students joining the lists and certificates.
6.3. Once the assessment has
been concluded, the departments involved will deliver the final certificates
-duly accomplished- to their secretary offices. A copy of them will be
saved for control purpose.
6.4. The original and copies
remaining will be sent to the centre where the student is registered and,
once there, they will be filed and saved. |
