1.2. By "free elective credits" is meant the assessment unit by which academic subjects or activities are configured.

2. Subjects that can be taken as free elective credits
2.1. Any subject from the study programme in force at the University of Alicante, except for mainstream or compulsory subjects taught in courses where placed are limited.

3.2. The Governing Board, on a proposal from departments, could establish some requirements not stated within those for the syllabus. Thus, certain subjects can be taken as free electives by students from other syllabuses.
3.3. The Governing Board may establish, on grounds of academic orientation, free election not prior to the syllabus second year.
3.4. Some limited free elective places may be established for other syllabuses' students without affecting students taking the syllabus in which these credits are offered.
3.5. Academic subjects or activities whose content is equal or similar to the syllabus chosen cannot be taken as free elective.
3.6. The maximum number of free elective credits to be taken, adapted or validated is the one established by the syllabus taken. This limit can only be surpassed by the credits of the last subject needed to reach the total.

4. Academic system for free election.
4.1. Any syllabus' subjects taken as free electives, will be subject to the academic system in force for them.
4.2. Whether any subject -included in the free elective subjects' prospectus- is no longer offered at the immediate upper course, the student registered to such a subject without having passed it (and whereas calls have not been exhausted) has the right to:
a) if the subject is taught, to be registered and attend the two next courses.
b) if the subject is no longer taught due to elimination from the syllabuses, to be registered to the two next courses within the same academic system applied to those subjects.
4.3. The number of free elective credits established in the respective syllabuses should be obtained totally as such: this number cannot be reached by summing credits obtained from already passed optional subjects.

5. Management and proceedings for free election.
5.1. With the aim of providing the students eligibility on free elective subjects, the University -through its several bodies- offers the required information and guidance.
To such effect, a prospectus including the free elective academic subjects and activities will be elaborated at the beginning of every academic year.
5.2. The student will apply for his/her registration to the free elective subjects on the registration form that should be submitted to the centre secretary office where the study programme is attached.
5.3. Whether the applications for registration are acceptable, either by being integrated within these subjects groups or by creating exclusive free-elective-subject groups, registration will be definitely accomplished.
5.4. Cases in which applications cannot be admitted for certain subjects due to lack of teaching capacity, vacancies will be assigned -according to registration order- on the following grounds:
1. Students that have passed all the subjects within the schedule by June.
2. The rest of the students according to the order established on the registration regulations.

6. Free elective subject list and certificates.
6.1. Once the registration process is finished and, prior to the assignments of the corresponding groups, the centres where free elective subjects are taught, will detail a list and certificates of such subjects and it will be submitted to the corresponding departments.
6.2. Likewise, the Computing Service will submit, to each centre secretary office, information on the students joining the lists and certificates.
6.3. Once the assessment has been concluded, the departments involved will deliver the final certificates -duly accomplished- to their secretary offices. A copy of them will be saved for control purpose.
6.4. The original and copies remaining will be sent to the centre where the student is registered and, once there, they will be filed and saved.
