FOR STUDENTS' PARENTS

Don't forget about our visit-program for parents , or the University Ombudsman

HERE IS THE WALKING-ROUTE WE SUGGEST TO YOU:

  1. Park your car where the number (1) is placed, next to the University Museum (2), which will be your first visit. The Museum, which  is on the right side of an artificial lake simulating a water sheet  of 14,000 square metres, is a huge wooden box-shaped, built by the young architect Alfredo Payá, one of the most outstanding architects within new Spanish architecture. Works from Picasso, Miró, Sempere, musical instruments or an excellent collection on Natural Sciences will be soon exhibited here.
  2. A area is just in front of the Museum where you can either enjoy a nice drink, go to a banking office or buy some representative objects with the university logo. If you are ready to go on walking, there is a large pedestrian area to continue your visit.

  1. At the beginning of this pedestrian path, if you enter by an avenue which connects the two " Aularios",   you will be faced by the General Library (4), a spectacular and modern building. The "Aulario II" (5) is easily recognised due to its red-coloured structure and U-shaped form. If you go on walking towards it, you will observe a row of coconut palms which will lead you to the open-air Auditorium where several degree convocations have already been held. On the right side you can see the remarkable building (6) of Alvaro Siza, considered the best architect nowadays. We suggest you to enter it by the inner courtyard, crossing it by a modern cloister-a mixed of mediterranean coutyards- and go out towards the former Alicante Airport Control Tower (7). This building  is  now  the head office of the  Alicante University's International Relations Centre . As you have noticed, next to this building is also found the former hangar (8) whose beautiful structure has been preserved and transformed into a wonderful garden of water lilies, tropical palm trees, bamboo's etc...Very close to this area, you can stare at a huge white hand sculpture (9) which seems to be drawing on  heaven. Born from Earth, it defies utopia strongly and goes beyond the boundaries of knowledge. This stands as a tribute to creativity and knowledge. It is a homage to the University of Orihuela, work of de Díaz Azorín. An inmense solar watch is (10) near the Polytechnical School.
  2. If you go on walking by the most ancient area, you will easily recognise the former military barrack huts (11) which are still being used for teaching purpose. Following towards the Faculty of Sciences (by the back-side of the former barrack huts), you will see the  "pinada de los cuentos" (pine forest for telling short-stories) where, every week, the student at the Teacher Training School tell short stories for both children and adults.  Among the pine trees' shade and trunks, the ceramic work of Arcadio Blasco brings us to mind society's first steps for our university  birth.
  3. At this point we are very close to the Miguel Hernández Square (13), built around the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts. nacida en torno a la Facultad de Ciencias, la Facultad de Derecho y la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras. Perhaps it is the right moment to have a rest and visit the University Exhibition Room (14). Another possibility would be to cross the Europe Square (15) and go on walking towards the University Auditorium (16). Nevertheless, taking into account that you are a little bit tired, we have chosen for you an incomparable framework: "El Bosque Ilustrado" A peaceful park where you can find, among other things, a monolith, which reproduces the so yearned for Dama de Elche, looking at a small lake with ducks. The mentioned lake is rounded by palm trees, olive trees, carob trees and many other trees which have been given away. As we walk by the paths of wooden beam found here, some natural stones from the province, such as the huge marble monolith from Pinoso or the columns at the Park's entry given away by Alicante's Seaport, are exhibited at this park
  4. Now we can calmly reach the Aulario I , enter it, walk by its inner courtyard. If we cross it, we will soon be at the  Facultty of Business and Economics (19) work made by the architect Fernández Alba. The Museum and the place where you have parked your car can be easily seen from here. Nevertheless, if you feel like something before you go, try our food services for this purpose.
