In order to strengthen and
expand mutual contacts, and to promote the enrichment of teaching and research
programs, Bilkent University, and Alicante University have agreed to develop
a student exchange agreement as follows:

Scope of Agreement – The purpose
of this Agreement is to establish the terms and conditions under which
the exchange of students between Bilkent University and Alicante University
shall take place. This Agreement shall be applicable to the exchange of
students between Bilkent University and Alicante University. The following
academic fields or disciplines are covered under the terms of this Agreement:
a. For Bilkent University: All fields.
b. For Alicante University:
All fields.

Definitions – As used herein
the terms "host university" and " home university" shall have the following
meanings:

Host University – the university
accepting the exchanged students.

Home University – the university
providing the exchanged students.

Period of Agreement – This Agreement
shall be effective from the date of signature. Official review of the Agreement
will take place three (3) years after the initial implementation of the
Agreement.

Initiation of Exchange – Each
exchange under the terms of this Agreement will be initiated by the respective
departments, schools or disciplines of Bilkent University and Alicante
University.

Period of Exchange – Each exchange
under the terms of this Agreement shall be for one (1) academic year or
one (1) academic semester.

Implementation of Exchange
-
Number of students to be exchanged
– the number of students to be exchanged will be decided each year by the
institutions with the understanding that a balance in the number of students
exchanged will be preserved. If the number of students exchanged between
the institutions is not in balance each year, a balance will be achieved
over a two-year period.

Responsibilities of the home
and host institutions toward their students and each other.
Home Institution
-
Each home university is responsible
for maintaining their own students registered at the home institution for
the duration of the program.

Each home institution is responsible
for recruitment, selection, and pre-program orientation of student participants.
-
The home institution will provide
the host institution with details of courses which are essential to their
own students curricular plan.
-
Home institution will advise
the host university of any circumstances which may affect the student’s
year abroad (e.g. known medical problems).
-
Home institution will advise
their students about academic and cultural expectations at the host university.
Host institution
-
Host institution will be responsible
for accepting students recommended by the home institution.
-
Host institution will provide
academic and other advisory services for incoming students.
-
Each host university will provide
assistance to the incoming student participants in securing housing.
-
Each host university will inform
the incoming student of healt insurance requirements and availability.
-
Host institution will provide
to the home university a final transcript describing the student’s academic
performance.

Costs to be borne by the student:
-
Students will pay the tuition
and fees of their home university to their home university prior to participation
in the program.
-
Room and board costs at the
host university will be the responsibility of the incoming student.
-
The student will be responsible
for necessary health insurance and medical costs.
-
Books, living expenses and any
other costs will be the individual responsibility of the student.
-
The exchanged student hall be
responsible for the cost of transportation to and form the host institution.
-
Each such exchange shall be
subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.

Coordination – The exchange
program will be coordinated by
For Bilkent University:
Office of the Vice Rector for Student Affairs.
For Alicante University:

Termination – This Agreement
may be terminated by either party providing the other written notice of
its intent to terminate. Such notice shall be given at least one (1) year
prior to the effective date of the termination. Such termination shall
not affect exchanges in effect prior the effective date of the termination.

Non discrimination – Bilkent
University and Alicante University agree that no person shall on the grounds
of race, color, national origin, sex, or creed be excluded from participation
under the terms of this Agreement.

Modification – The terms of
this Agreement may be changed or modified only by written amendment signed
by the parties hereto.
