3rd International Workshop on IN-Situ Study and DEvelopment of Processes Involving PORous Solids (INSIDE-POReS)

ALICANTE (SPAIN) 24 -26th September 2007

Nanosciences and nanotechnologies are widely seen as a multi-disciplinary and integrative field having huge potential to improve competitiveness and sustainable development across a wide range of industrial sectors.
Nanoporous materials play an increasingly important role in nowadays knowledge based society as they can replace traditional materials and lead to the generation of new ones. Due to their unique structural or surface physicochemical properties, these materials are used as catalysts, catalyst supports and membranes and can find a wide range of applications among of which in energy storage and novel reactions technologies.

Their performance depends on the very detailed topology and geometrical characteristics of the pore matrix. The complete characterization and scientific knowledge about the structure of nanoporous materials is still a challenge. This is mainly because of the great difficulty in representing accurately the complex of the pore matrix.

It is therefore believed that the combination of characterization techniques aided by advanced model analysis will provide the required powerful tool towards in depth understanding of the structure of nanoporous solids.

The 1st International Workshop on IN-Situ Study and DEvelopment of Processes Involving PORous Solids (INSIDE-POReS) was held in La Grande Motte, France, March 19th-23rd, 2006 and the 2nd International School & Workshop was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, February 24th-28th, 2007.

Workshop objectives are:

- to discuss the state of the art on in situ characterization and monitoring of nanoporous materials, during their preparation and use as sorbents, catalysts and membranes, and in novel processes including energy conversion, storage or sensing applications.

- to spread the scientific knowledge from the EC Network of Excellence INSIDE POReS and to provide training at doctoral and postdoctoral levels in processes involving nanoporous materials, their preparation, and in situ and/or ex situ characterization.

- to provide the change for interaction to scientists and technicians working the field of porous materials.

The workshop is open to all core and satellite partners of the INSIDE POReS NoE as well to other scientists in the field.

Conference Dates and Venues

The workshop will begin on Monday 24th September, 2007 and will end on Wednesday 26th September, 2007.
