MAIN OBJECTIVES:
|
There
is no doubt that English is the lingua franca for academic
communication. Therefore, university lecturers and researchers need to
become more familiar with academic English so as to facilitate their
international students’ understanding of the subject matter they teach,
and to improve their communication of research developments and results
among international colleagues of their fields.
In
this workshop we will reflect on what we need to take into account to
be successful in communicating in English in our classrooms and at
international conferences. We will review the linking devices, tactics
and steps to follow in order to attract our audience’s attention and to
be effective in involving them in our discourse. Each participant will
carry out a short presentation on a topic within their fields of
teaching and/or research.

REQUIREMENTS:
|
Participants must have at least an upper intermediate level of proficiency in the English language
|
SYLLABUS AND METHODOLOGY:
|
The
workshop will be held in English and will consist of two parts. We will
first review the theoretical and practical notions of Academic English
and its use in oral presentations through interactive lectures. In the
second half we will carry out oral presentations.

EVALUATION:
|
Active
participation. Each participant will carry out their own presentation
and will be involved in the presentations of others. Attendance is
required at 80% of the sessions.

Duración: 20 horas.
Número de plazas: 25, otorgadas por riguroso orden de entrada del boletín de inscripción en la Secretaría del ICE.

Ambas aulas enfrente del edificio de Escuela Universitaria de Óptica y Optometría.

CERTIFICACIÓN:
|
La
Universidad de Alicante podrá incluir la realización de
algún tipo de prueba evaluatoria para poder obtener el
correspondiente certificado de aprovechamiento
